Poetry -- Waveform

Like Schrödinger's cat

the waveform collapses

into the rippled surface

         of the universe

breaking down illusory

         duality

seeking a oneness that

         already exists

I dive into the void

         beneath

where I am not,

neither becoming

         nor doing

Poetry -- Open Mic

Exuberant gifts exchanged

while sitting together

in a potlatch of thoughts.

Undiminished by the

    things you take from me

I'm enriched by the

    sparks of wisdom

Dancing upon the waves

    of your words.

Play Reading -- A Christmas Carol

This Thursday at 7 pm at Mama Hillybeans we'll be having our monthly play reading from one of our local playwrights. This month we have an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol by Dave Shacklock. He's modernized and Tehachapi-ized the story, so look for Scrooge having lunch at a local diner, and you might recognize the Cratchit's neighborbood.

In keeping with Dave's interest in Education, he's made arrangements for the parts to be read by some of our local Tehachapi High School students.

Now Fades the Glimmering Landscape

The book came in at an official 50,004 words (though my word processor gave me a slightly higher count). I kind of disappointed in the ending. It wasn't as strong (nor as long) as I had thought it would be. Part of it was just getting sick of the whole thing. I couldn't keep my inner editor completely beaten into submission. But I realize that what I have now is the draft of a novel. And in a month or so, perhaps I will be able to face the prospect of doing some editing. For now though I shall gloat, and bask in the deluded respect that my accomplishment has earned me.

40,406

I did better than I had expected tonight. 1750 words. Hopefully I'll be able to find SOME time tomorrow to get some writing done. 'Cause right now I'm just a bit off pace. And if I can get a couple good days this weekend, I'll be all set. The story (what little story there seems to be) is winding down and heading for my deus ex machina. At least I sorta think the end makes sense. But I don't know how well it will really work.

Anyway. Less than 10,000 words to go. So I'm in the home stretch.
