The City of Tehachapi and Tehachapi Community Theatre announce the ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of the newly-completed recreation of the BeeKay Theatre, on Saturday Dec 6 at 10 am, 110 S. Green St. The general public is invited to participate in the ceremony and visit the theatre throughout the day.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed by a tour of the theatre and refreshments, and City Council and TCT Board Members will then be asked to participate in driving the first nail into the stage floor, symbolizing the rebirth of the BeeKay as a working live theatre, according to TCT President Karl Schuck.

This reincarnation of the BeeKay is entirely new, built from scratch behind the original façade, which is the only portion of the first BeeKay still standing. Architect Kevin Haub designed the building, with Boyle Engineering supervising the structural elements in consultation with Tehachapi City Manager Greg Garrett, the City’s chief building inspector Jon Hasselbrink and TCT’s building committee led by Doug Jockinsen. The interior décor is by TCT Board member David Reed.

Starting at 11:00 am will be TCT’s Holiday Sneak Peek, featuring local performing groups in an all-new show every 45 minutes throughout the day. This is in conjunction with the City’s Old Tyme Christmas Celebration. Folks downtown to enjoy the day and bid on the Christmas trees can step into the theatre to catch any of the shows during the day.

The performance schedule is as follows: at 11:00 am, Tehachapi Academy of Performing Arts dancers; 11:45 Perfect 10 Gymnasts and cheerleaders, 12:30 t.b.a.; 1:15 t.b.a. 2:00 Tehachapi High School Show Choir and Chorus; 2:45 Dancers from Tehachapi Dance Theatre, 3:15 Lee’s House of Music Student Recitals.

Saturday’s events will conclude with the traditional Christmas Parade wending through downtown beginning at 5:30 pm.

I am going, but later in the day.

I have to play catch up with stuff here at home first, then I will go in for my sneak peek! I plan to help out the new theatre in some way in the future ...maybe I could help with some set painting? We'll see! I I don't see Lauren and Ken in today's revised LineUp... whaa-happened?

After BeeKay I am going Hillybeans to see David Nigel Lloyd. Perhaps I will catch some of the Parade as well from in front of the Kirby's.

The BeeKay is next to Las Palmas on Green Street, a half a block south of Tehachapi Boulevard (across from Gallery N Gifts) -- easy to spot once you get to that three three-way stop at Green and Tehahcapi Boulevard!
