Poetry -- Meadow

mathnerde's picture

throughout the night
the stream mumbled
to itself
using words only it
understood

black starry sky
slowly, slowly
fades to silver gray
rousing the forest

birds jostle
raucously
trying to be heard

squirrels
dart
from tree to tree
silently

chipmunks lock
in territorial battle
bounding comically

sunlight
lazy, lazy,
flows down
the mountainsides
awakening colors,
filling the meadow
with golden light

a hummingbird
hovers
in a beam of sunlight
listening to
the whispers
of the stream

I wasn't online...

Travelling all day. Now sitting around visiting family. That is the best stanza. I could almost chop off the rest, and just keep the part where the sunlight is slowly oozing down the mountainside.
